My Honest Thoughts on Matte Lip Color (and Mini Reviews)
Hey, all! As you probably well know, matte lip products are all the rage lately. I never quite understood the hype. I have been a glossy girl since my first dose of Lip Smackers in 5th grade. I always have to wear balm when I am not wearing lip color (even to bed!) so that my lips don’t feel dry, and I love a long-lasting gloss or a shiny lipstick. So, you can see why the mattes never really appealed to me.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream and Lorac Pro Matte Lipstick
Having said this, I purchased my two first true matte lip colors a few days ago. One is by Lorac, and the other is by NYX. The Lorac Pro Matte Lipstick’s thickness is in between a lipstick and a liner, so it’s super simple to achieve a precise application. I just lined my lips and filled in the rest. The nude pink color, Rose Petal, is so pretty! And it stayed put for hours, so I always felt put together. But I found myself licking my lips and desperately wanting to apply gloss! This won’t stop me from wearing it in the future because it’s such a lovely shade of pink, but I will definitely be swiping a thin layer of balm or gloss over top from now on.

The NYX is a liquid matte, and it has a doe foot applicator that also makes it easy to follow your lip line and cover all the corners. But, again, I had the same issue. While it tricked me by feeling glossy in the beginning as it dried, it ended up making me wonder if I was dehydrated. I do love the bright pink (called Istanbul), but I actually didn’t expect it to be that bright! This lipstick has great staying power, but I will be throwing some gloss or balm on top of this one as well. I will say, though, that it is a nice change knowing that on a windy day my hair wouldn’t be getting stuck in my lips- so annoying! So that’s always an option…

That’s what’s up today. Thanks for listening to my ramblings about this very important topic. I don’t know too much about liquid mattes. Maybe they are liquid because they are supposed to feel more like gloss? And why are matte lipsticks currently all the rage?? Are any of your go-to lip colors matte? Please fill me in!!
