[…] This is the definition of cozy and chic right here, folks. Again, this sweater is super soft, and the bell-like shape to the sleeves sets it apart from your usual cableknit sweater. Plus, it has ruffle cable detailing on the front. This sweater will surely keep you cozy all winter long, and you can even wear it to a holiday gathering! […]
I love this time of year! The Christmas bells on commercials, the decorations, the music… But it is also a hectic time of year. The other day, I realized that I hadn’t had time to purchase any new holiday outfits yet, so I decided I wasn’t going to buy a holiday outfit this year! Why? I wanted to make the most out of what is already in my wardrobe. And because I went shopping in my closet rather than the mall, I found countless affordable (Do they count as free?) outfit possibilities. Check out my holiday outfit ideas for any type of gathering: dressy, casual, daytime, nighttime, and pretty much anything in between. Let me know which outfit is your favorite! Also, I have linked similar items under each look so you can shop!
Holiday Outfit Idea: Semi-Casual
This outfit features one of my favorite LC Lauren Conrad tops, which I shared on the blog about a month ago. The winter green color of this tunic top just screams holiday, and I made it less casual by adding pleather leggings and heels. This outfit is modest yet noticeable, so it’s super wearable.
Where am I headed in this outfit?
- work holiday happy hour
- Christmas or New Year’s Eve party
- Church

Holiday Outfit Idea: Casual
This red blazer stood out to me the moment I set foot in my closet, and I knew I wanted to use it, but I wasn’t sure how at first. I ended up pairing it with a sparkly gold blouse and dark-wash skinny jeans. Then, I topped (or bottomed) off the look with black leather wedge booties and a patent leather clutch. Side note: I scored this Michael Kors clutch at Marshall’s a few years back.
Where am I headed in this outfit?
- Christmas Day gathering
- Christmas Eve gathering
- happy (merry) hour
- an event at my child’s school or a recital

Holiday Outfit Ideas: Different options for dressy
I’ve got three dressy holiday outfit ideas that are on various points of the dressy spectrum. I used the same BCBGMAXAZRIA sequin dress in all 3 options. (My husband gave me this dress as a gift last Christmas. I know, he has good taste, right?! Best dress ever!)
The Dressy Dressy Option
I’ll definitely wear this exact look at some point during the season because it’s simple yet stunning. I love the sparkles!
Where am I headed in this dress?
- a fancy holiday affair, such as a black-tie optional event
- New Year’s Eve party in the city
- an elegant holiday dinner

The Fun Dressy Option
I saw this summery lace top in my closet and thought the mixtures of lace and sequin would be super interesting. The contrast between the colors is eye-catching as well. Out of all these holiday outfit ideas, this one really stands out to me, and all it took was one simple change! How easy is it to slip a shirt on over a dress? ? I’m so glad that even though I hadn’t worn this top in years, I kept it around. Cream lace is kind of my addiction and what I am always drawn to, so keep your addiction in mind next time you clean out your closet. Sometimes, age doesn’t matter!
Where am I headed in this combo?
- A holiday party in the city
- elegant dinner
- a gathering with an edgy vibe
- pretty much anywhere- even a gathering at home!

I popped a soft and cozy LC Lauren Conrad sweater over this dress for a rustic-chic vibe.
Where am I headed in this combo?
This look could take you pretty much anywhere you’d like, but here are a few specific scenarios:
- a quaint gathering at a cabin-like environment in the mountains
- a quiet dinner
- a dressy family gathering at someone’s house

That’s what’s up in holiday outfit ideas. All of these items were already in my closet. (I am pretty sure I used the silver clutch at one of my proms many years ago.) Do you think you’ll still purchase a new holiday outfit this season, or will you shop your closet? Which of these looks would you wear? Please comment and share this post!

Thank you, Amy!
The dressy outfit is so good, I love the sequenced skirt its perfect. Also I’m still totally obsessed with the red blazer, its just so fab and stands right out! Where are the pleather leggings from? I’ve been on the prowl for some!
xo, JJ
Thanks! The dressy one is great, I agree. That dress is on sale if you click the shoppable link in the post! It’s still pricey but so worth it. The pleather leggings are LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s, but it doesn’t seem like they are available this year. They are last year’s. But I’ve linked similar ones beneath my photos, too! xo
Beautiful outfits 🙂
Thanks 🙂
