[…] How to Create 5 Chic Outfits with a Black Tee: Fall/Winter Version […]
Alright, guys. It’s time to get creative and beef up the basics in your wardrobe. Since I sometimes forget about my basics, I decided to challenge myself to create 5 chic outfits with a black tee I already had in my closet. Basic tees are a great blank canvas for an outfit on either end of the casual-dressy spectrum. It didn’t take me more than 3 minutes to pull items from my wardrobe to create some major chicness. And since it is autumn, I created outfits you can wear during the colder months. Do you use your basic tees enough?
The Black Tee
The basic black tee that I currently have in my closet is this one. It’s super comfy and on sale for $11.99 (before coupons or discounts). I like v-necks better than crew because they look a little less casual, and I feel that you can be a little more creative with them. This black tee also has slits on each side that make it more moveable and flattering. I highly recommend it and am considering some other colors.

Blush is such an in color right now, and it doesn’t go better with anything than black. So styling my black tee with this Love Token studded fur vest was the first idea to come to my mind. I cannot find this vest on their website in blush, but this faux fur vest from Forever 21 will do the trick.

I call this look the cozy outfit. I added a long black cardigan and topped it off with a chunky knit infinity scarf. Olive green skinnies are a must for fall and winter, as well as tall brown boots. I also added charcoal sweater boot toppers for extra coziness and dimension.

Cardigan: Free People from Marshall’s (Learn more here.)

Scarf: J. Crew (Similar one in ivory here)
Boot Toppers: Bear Paw

Chic outfit with a black tee #3
This outfit could take you to a holiday happy hour or party. It’s the alternative to a little black dress, in my opinion. A good quality about black is that it looks exceptional against red, and red is a color I wear throughout fall in winter. I jazzed the look even further by adding a sparkly necklace and lace-up heels.

I have to admit that I put this outfit together on a whim, but I am digging the result. I love layering during the colder months, so I decided to wear this top over a delicate Free People dress. This minidress is one of my favorites because I love cream lace, so it is exciting that I can find ways to work this dress during the fall. I had other ideas for transitioning it into the colder months in How to Transition Summer Outfits into Fall, and throwing a black tee over it was not one of them! I thought about adding an olive green button-down in addition to the black tee, but I didn’t want to hide the beautiful lace sleeves. (See how I wore it during the summer.)
Outfit Details:
Dress: Free People (Couldn’t find the exact one, but this one is highly similar, and while scrolling through Free People’s cream/white dress selection, I wanted ALL of them.)
Leggings: Same as those in outfit #3
Boots: Same as those in outfit #2
Bag: Jessica Simpson (Similar one here)
Chic outfit with a black tee #5
This is the most casual look out of the 5 chic outfits. I love the color combo here. I feel like the shades or purple, blue, and gray are really calm and relaxing, which is perfect for a casual outfit. And black complements the gray corduroys, allowing them to stand out in their own right!

Button-down: BDG from Urban Outfitters (Similar here)
Cords: Gap (Similar here)
Sneakers: Converse (Similar version)
Bag: Francesca’s
That’s what’s up in style inspo today. How do you beef up your basics? Which if these looks is your favorite?
Let’s be friends!
You look stunning in all 5 looks! The number 4 look is a clever idea 🙂
Thank you, Amy! If I had more time, I would have made ten outfits. I agree, number 4 is the most out of my comfort zone, but it is one of my favorites. Thanks for checking out the outfits!
Great outfits! Love them all 🙂

Thank you, Alifya!
This post is everything I wanted and more because half my wardrobe consists of black T’s. Every single outfit you posted on here is to die for. I need to get a red blazer that’s on my list for sure! Also you rock a bun like no other! I’m always envious of girls that can just throw their hair up like that and have it look perfect.
Also, creeping on your insta…. i need that recipe for your taco pasta dish!!! YUM
xo, JJ
Haha. Hi, Jenny! The pasta was soooo good. I tweaked it a bit so I will definitely blog about the adapted recipe. I am so glad you enjoyed these outfits. It was super easy to just pull things from my closet and just roll with it! And the bun- that’s literally my only hairstyle! Sad, but true for now. Thanks for reading!
Love all these ideas. They are so simple and casual and you look so pretty :)!
